Twenty-five years ago, we opened a little boutique here in Charleston. We'd met some years before that, two young mothers, when Valerie kept bringing dresses to Natalie's table to be taken in and hemmed. We'd talk while the kids played, and a friendship grew — Natalie had the hands, Valerie had the eye. Between us, we'd seen too many women give up on the mirror, so we set out to find dresses made to fit a real woman, not to fight her.
